Industry Response Covid 19

The majority of Insurers have undertaken positions on relief action that vary both in scope and size.

There are a few areas that are consistent that will help consumers:

Payments – Billing:
NSF, Reinstatement fees being waived, payment deferral upon request
Cancellations:
  •  Auto policies subject to cancellation for non-payment are being held until Mid-May 2020 with the opportunity to catch up without penalty.
  •  Home policies are on a case by case basis and subject to Declaration of Emergency endorsements
  •  Commercial policies are all on a case by case basis and every company is approaching this differently.

If you’re in need of help in any of the above situations or scenarios, we encourage you to contact our office for guidance and assistance.
Other areas that can help are:
  •  Auto policies – change in use, no longer commuting to/from work,
  •  Home policies – working from home, $5,000 extended for property related
  •  Commercial policies are all on a case by case basis and every company is approaching this differently.

It is recommended to talk with our office to discuss the benefits and time line involved related to work from home orders or government shut down, additionally, once these restrictions are lifted, it will be important for you to advise us of any future changes you may again incur.

Commerical Property / Business Owners policy holders – in the event you are ordered to close your place of business and the property is unoccupied as a result, it is recommended that you arrange for a competent person to enter and inspect the premises for security and safety issues or concerns every 72 hours. Feel free to call our office for further clarity on this topic.
Special Notice for Gore Mutual Policy holders:
To provide a premium reduction to our personal auto insurance customers, they will receive a simple one-time payment equivalent to 20% of three months premium. The payment will be sent by cheque and will have no detrimental impact to future premiums or coverage. All in-force auto customers as of Thursday, April 9, 2020 will automatically receive the payment. There are no actions required by brokers or your customer.
We are here to help, advise and guide you during these difficult time and hope you will reach out to us at your convenience to assist you in any way we can.
